Chiefs Shut Out Silvertips

Blake Gal scored two goals while goaltenders Garret Hughson and Eric Williams combined to make 22 saves in a 4-0 win for the Spokane Chiefs on Friday over the Everett Silvertips. It was their first of two pre-season games on the weekend as they take on the Tri-City Americans at 7:00 p.m. in Kennewick on Saturday night. The Chiefs are now 2-1-0-0 on the pre-season.

The Chiefs outshot Everett 36-22, including 14-2 in the second period when Spokane scored twice.

The 20-year-old Gal opened the scoring with his first of the pre-season 8:05 into the game with assists from rookie Riley Whittingham and defenseman Cole Wedman.

Eighteen-year-old Liam Stewart gave the Chiefs a 2-0 lead just 49-seconds into the second. Mitch Holmberg and Jeremy McIntosh helped on the play.

Todd Fiddler scored the Chiefs lone power play goal in eight chances with his second of the pre-season at 5:37 of the second. Defensemen Jason Fram and Reid Gow had the assists.

Gal finished the scoring at 8:02 of the third.

Spokane was 5-5 on the penalty kill.

Hughson, a 17-year-old rookie from Foremost, AB, started the game and stopped all nine shots he faced in 31:04. The 19-year-old Williams made 13 saves in 28:56.
