TOPPENISH, Wash.-- A Toppenish elementary school literally rolled out the red carpet today for their students' first day back in school.
Teachers at Valley View Elementary decorated the school like a red carpet event, dressing up in fancy clothing and even starting a flash mob during their first day assembly. A government grant allowed the school to start ten days early this year.
Kids told us it was a fun way to start off the year.
"It was funny when the teachers were dancing and the music just came out of nowhere," says 5th Grader Jackie Rodriguez.
"Nice to put the red carpet, because it shows a lot of respect for people," says 4th Grader Lilliana Travis.
"They were showing that we were stars for coming back..." says 5th Grader Jonathan Lomeli.
Teachers say it took several days to get everything planned out. The school hopes to make the event a yearly tradition.
