YAKIMA, Wash.-- Credit unions across Yakima County are donating more than five thousand boxes of school supplies to low income students.
Volunteers from several different credit unions joined forces today to pack the boxes.
It's part of a 21-year tradition involving local companies like Solarity, CALCOE Federal, and Lower Valley credit unions.
Volunteers say the end result is worth all the work.
"Just to see the look on the kids' faces who otherwise don't get school supplies, it's just amazing to know that we were able to help out with that," says Amy Cziske with Solarity Credit Union.
Donations will go directly to several local school districts including Yakima, Wapato, Granger, and Sunnyside. They'll be available in participating districts on the first day of school.
