WHAT DELTA DID: Posted a second-quarter loss because its bets on the direction of oil prices didn't work out.
WHAT DELTA DIDN'T DO: Lose money flying airplanes. That part went fine. Delta would have earned $586 million if not for the hedging losses.
WHAT'S NEXT: Delta bought a refinery in June and hopes to have it running in mid-September after overhauling it to maximize the jet fuel production.
